A proposal filed on Oct. 15 would let XRP Ledger accounts be created with a zero XRP balance while a sponsor covers the required reserve, TokenPost reported. The SponsoredAccountCreate transaction would also set up a sponsorship object for the new account.

Every XRP Ledger account must hold a base reserve of 1 XRP, plus 0.2 XRP per owned item. Under the proposal, that obligation stays with the sponsor, and the account owner keeps control of the keys. Apps could onboard users without pre-funding each wallet.

Sponsor amendment still short of activation

The code is gated behind SponsorV1_1, tying it to the broader sponsored fees and reserves framework, which has not yet activated on mainnet. As of Oct. 28, 10 of 35 trusted validators had voted in favor; amendments need more than 80% support sustained for two weeks. The proposal remains under review.
