The Stellar Development Foundation unveiled Project Thruput, a fee-free network that reached 7.02 million payments per second in early benchmarks, according to the foundation’s announcement. The figure came from eight machines inside a single validator, up from 1.18 million on one machine.
The benchmark measured the core execution engine, including signature verification and block processing, not full network throughput. Thruput runs transactions that touch the same data simultaneously and spreads work across machines without sharding state.
No per-transaction fees, token-based priority
Thruput removes per-transaction fees while keeping gas limits. When demand exceeds capacity, priority depends on accounts’ unlocked native-token balances. The project is a technology preview running on FutureNet, with public code and documentation, and the foundation has not said how it will relate to the existing Stellar network.
