CoinShares is renaming its Toncoin Staking ETP. The product formerly known as CTON now goes by the CoinShares Gram Staking ETP, with the change effective June 15, 2026.

The fund itself is not changing. The token it holds is. Toncoin has become Gram, and the exchange-traded product is following it.

The rebrand also completes a loop that began in 2018. Gram was the name Telegram originally chose for this asset, years before regulators got involved.

What is actually changing

Mostly the label. According to CoinShares, the product remains 100% physically backed. Each unit is supported by real tokens held in reserve, not by a derivative or a promise.

It also still charges 0% in management fees.

The staking component carries over too. Staking rewards earned on the underlying tokens are shared with investors.

The underlying blockchain keeps its name. The network is still called The Open Network, or TON. Only the token has been renamed, from Toncoin (TON) to Gram (GRAM).

Holders do not need to do anything. No migrations or token swaps are required. It is a rename, not a redesign.

A community vote and a return to Telegram

The rename was approved by token holders. A community vote held from June 1 to June 8, 2026, returned 81.22% support for switching to Gram.

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has framed the change as a return to the project’s origins.

TON is a layer-1 blockchain that was originally built by the founders of Telegram.

Telegram’s 2018 whitepaper introduced the token under the name Gram. The project then ran into significant regulatory trouble in the US.

After a 2020 settlement with the SEC, the original plan changed course. The open-source TON Foundation took over maintenance of the network, and the token became known as Toncoin.

That changed in May 2026, when Telegram once again took over control of TON.

21Shares makes the same move

CoinShares is not alone. Rival issuer 21Shares rebranded its own Toncoin Staking ETP on June 16, 2026, one day after CoinShares’ change took effect.

The 21Shares product changed its ticker from TONN to GRAM. The firm said the asset’s specifications would not be altered as part of the switch.
