Fintech firm Mural has secured $28 million in total funding, including a $15 million Series A round led by Tether and backed by North Island Ventures and existing investors, as it expands its financial infrastructure for fintechs, global businesses and AI-powered financial services.

Founded by Sinclair Toffa and Chris Fernandes, who previously worked as engineers at Palantir, Mural seeks to reduce the cost and complexity of international money transfers while preparing financial systems for AI agents that can transact autonomously.

The company is developing a Global Financial Internet to make global payments more accessible and enable businesses to build financial services on interconnected infrastructure. Its customers include Deel, Opera and Axexo, among others.

Mural said it has processed more than $2 billion in payments for end users in 128 countries since launching its API in 2025, with 2026 payment volume already approaching six times the previous year’s total.

As businesses begin accepting payments from AI agents, Mural aims to provide the controls needed to verify authorization and establish accountability for transactions made without direct human involvement. Its existing infrastructure supports transaction limits, approved counterparties, additional approvals for larger payments and audit trails.

The company will use the funding to improve its financial infrastructure, expand its team and regulatory footprint, and extend its services to additional markets.
