Patrick Witt, who helped coordinate the Trump administration’s digital asset policy as executive director of the White House Crypto Council, is leaving his government post for the private sector, he said Thursday.

Witt began working on the White House’s digital asset agenda in 2025 as deputy director of the President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, alongside his role leading the Pentagon’s Office of Strategic Capital.

He became executive director of the council in August 2025, replacing Bo Hines, who joined stablecoin issuer Tether as a strategic adviser, later becoming CEO of its US operations.

As executive director of the White House Crypto Council, Witt helped steer the Trump administration’s digital asset agenda, with a focus on market structure legislation and stablecoin policy.

He became the administration’s principal negotiator for the CLARITY Act after the House passed its version, working to reconcile competing positions from crypto firms, banks, lawmakers and regulators. The bill ultimately stalled in the Senate amid disputes over stablecoin rewards, ethics provisions and President Trump’s crypto holdings.

Witt also worked on the follow-up policy and implementation of the GENIUS Act, the federal stablecoin law enacted in 2025 before he took the council’s top role.

Witt expressed optimism about the US entering a new period of technological advancement as he announced his departure from the government.
