A US government-linked wallet transferred 12,267 BTC worth about $1.01 billion on October 8 from funds seized in the Bitfinex hacking case, according to Arkham.

The transaction occurred at 9:33 a.m. Eastern time. Almost all the Bitcoin went to a new, unlabeled address, with 0.0012 BTC sent to another wallet. Arkham later marked both outputs as spent.

The funds were part of roughly 94,000 BTC seized in 2022 from Ilya Lichtenstein and Heather Morgan in connection with the 2016 hack.

On Wednesday, government-linked wallets also sent about $119 million in USDT and roughly 2,574 BTC worth $215 million to Coinbase Prime through intermediary addresses. Coinbase Prime provides custody services, so those deposits do not confirm sales.

A March 2025 executive order directed forfeited Bitcoin into a reserve that would not be sold. Arkham estimated government holdings at about 306,795 BTC, worth $24.85 billion at the report’s prices.
