Tokenized stock markets and real-world asset derivatives are becoming increasingly important sources of blockchain revenue, as institutional and broader-economy adoption accounted for one-third of industry revenue in the third quarter of 2026, according to a new report from research firm 1kx.
Revenue from broader-economy applications, including tokenized assets, payments and prediction markets, rose 58% year-over-year in the first half of the year and overtook blockchain infrastructure in Q3, contributing 22% of total revenue against 21% for infrastructure.
Trading in tokenized stocks on Robinhood Chain surpassed $13 billion in Q3, with more than 70% of the volume occurring while US exchanges were closed. Real-world asset perpetual futures volume increased 122-fold year over year, further indicating growing activity in blockchain-based markets linked to traditional financial assets.
The developments come as traditional exchanges and financial firms explore extended trading hours and blockchain-based settlement infrastructure.
The report also identified rapid growth in prediction markets and crypto-linked payments. Prediction market fees were estimated at more than $1.5 billion in Q3, compared with $86 million a year earlier, with around $55 billion in settled volume, largely concentrated in Kalshi and Polymarket.

Digital asset payment card spending tripled to $3.4 billion, with almost all transactions running through Visa’s network.
Meanwhile, public companies accounted for 16% of blockchain revenue, up from 7% in 2022, and major banks and traditional finance firms were on track to generate $1 billion in blockchain revenue this year.
1kx expects total blockchain revenue to reach about $100 billion in 2026, down 28% from roughly $140 billion last year. The firm said the changing revenue mix reflects the growing contribution from traditional financial institutions and applications connecting blockchain networks with the wider economy.
