MoneyGram chose Stellar over other blockchains because it trusted the network more than for its speed or cost, MoneyGram’s Luke Tuttle said at Meridian 2026, in an interview CoinDesk posted on Wednesday. “There’s the speed of it and the cost, but at the end of the day, it’s the trust,” he said.

A partnership dating to 2021

MoneyGram began working with the Stellar Development Foundation in 2021 and launched cash-to-USDC ramps on the network in 2022, letting customers convert between local cash and the dollar stablecoin at its retail locations. The remittance company has since expanded its use of the network for stablecoin-based services.
